Baking bread to feed the hungry at the front lines

March 29, 2022 -
Everyday volunteers in a small church in Klevan, Ukraine bake between 200-250 loaves of bread that is shipped via humanitarian buses to Kyiv, Kharkiv, Sumy Oblast, and other areas of Ukraine that have had food supply lines disrupted and cut by active battle.

Mission Without Borders supplies the church with the flour for the bread, purchased and shipped thanks to donations to the Ukraine Emergency Appeal from supporters around the globe.

Mission Without Borders staff member, Kateryna, lives in Klevan and is also a member of the church. She oversees the baking operations as part of her ministry with the church.

“I’m happy I can use my hobby skills to help others, our dear people in other regions who endure this terrible war and unbearable sufferings. We couldn’t imagine one month ago that someone here could suffer from hunger. We pray day and night for our people and for our country and do whatever we can to help them and save their lives”, Kateryna said.

MWB provides flour to bake much-needed bread in battle-weary regions of Ukraine

Fighting continues to spread across Ukraine. An oil depot close to a residential area in Klevan was targeted by missile strikes on March 28th, and other oil storage facilities close by have been destroyed by missile strikes launched from both Russia and Belarus.

Your donations are providing urgently-needed food, aid, hope, and compassion to those impacted by the war in Ukraine. Help get more emergency aid to those displaced by the war by donating to the MWB Emergency Appeal at mwbca.org/ukraine.

Donations to MWB's Emergency Appeal help provide supplies like flour for volunteers
to bake bread with. With normal food supplies restricted, violunteer operations like this
that supply bread everyday are important sources of food in battle-weary regions.
